Four Seasons Firenze

A Renaissance sanctuary in the heart of Florence

Housed within the 15th-century Palazzo della Gherardesca and the former convent La Villa, Four Seasons Firenze is more than a hotel. It is a living museum of Renaissance beauty and timeless hospitality. Behind its historic walls, frescoes, marble details, and vaulted ceilings meet contemporary comfort. Guests discover a stay unlike any other in Florence.

A place steeped in history

The palazzo, completed in 1473, was once a symbol of Florentine nobility. Today, carefully restored, it welcomes travelers into a world where history and modern luxury coexist. Since opening in 2008, Four Seasons Firenze has stood as a benchmark for refined hospitality in Italy.

Rooms & suites

The property features 116 rooms and suites. Each combines elegance with comfort, often framed by frescoed ceilings, antique furniture, and garden views.

The Renaissance Suite, where I stayed, captures the spirit of the city. Its high ceilings, original frescoes, and spacious layout create an atmosphere of grandeur. Large windows flood the interiors with natural light, while refined details reflect Florence’s artistic heritage.

Gardens & pool

One of the hotel’s greatest treasures lies just beyond its walls. The property is home to the largest private garden in Florence. Spanning 11 acres, it is a sanctuary of manicured lawns, centuries-old trees, and secret pathways.

At its heart lies a serene outdoor pool. Surrounded by lush greenery, it feels like a hidden escape within the city. The soothing sound of birdsong and the fragrance of blooming flowers make it the perfect place to pause between museum visits.

Dining

Food is another highlight at Four Seasons Firenze. Indeed, the hotel is home to Il Palagio, a Michelin-starred restaurant led by Chef Paolo Lavezzini. Here, Tuscan flavors meet refined culinary techniques, creating a memorable dining experience.

Alternatively, for a more relaxed setting, Onde serves Mediterranean cuisine in a light-filled space, perfect for both lunch and dinner. Altogether, the two restaurants showcase the best of Florence’s food culture.

A renaissance escape

With its historic architecture, lush gardens, and world-class dining, Four Seasons Firenze is more than a place to stay. It is a retreat into Florence’s Renaissance soul. Ultimately, guests leave not only with memories of the city but also of a hotel that feels like part of its history.
